Ok guys, the following method worked for me.
I installed 7.10, and found that the Creative driver worked out of the box, as NullHead said. However, under 7.10 I didn't get my monitor configured...
It came with the XPS. The package slip identified it as X-Fi XtremeGamer. I am not sure if this is exactly what you get if you buy it over the counter. It seems that some people with similar problems...
Hm, from googling "sbxfi: Interrupts don't seem to be working.", this problem seems to tend to occur on XPS systems ... I need to check if they actually found a solution.

Would love to do that, but it seems that the file is too big (40kB) to be a legitimate attachment. Is there any portion of that file that will do?
